Tawa Community Board visit
Tuesday 27th November 2018
On Monday evening (26 November 2018), Tawa Community Board members Malcolm Sparrow and Richard Herbert came to meet volunteer coaches, some Committee members and to see the progress on the Clubrooms refurbishment. A Tawa Community Grant this year funded four Tawa Swimming Club volunteer coaches to undertake NZ Swim Teacher Award training, providing a grounding in health and safety, how learners learn and session planning. Grant funded coaches were Clara Gianos, Max Wong, Joshua Keegan and Danika Viskovic, pictured here with Malcolm and Richard, and Clara's swimmers. Each coach trains up to 10 swimmers each week. The Club provides 14 hours of volunteer coaching each week, by 11 volunteer coaches, providing affordable swim training to over 100 children at this level. Eight of 11 volunteer coaches are college students - from Tawa (3), Onslow (2), St Marys (1), St Pats Town (1) and Wellington Girls (1). All other swimming members of Tawa are in competitive squads or the College swimfit group. Many thanks to Tawa Community Board for its support of the Club.
